Welcome to Hackney Apostolic Church
Here at Hackney Apostolic Church we see a vibrant, life-giving church.
We see a church that grows bigger than the biggest building can hold. We see a church that grows deeper in worship, passionate in praise, warmer through friendship and mature through teaching. We see a church, in which all play their part, releasing their God given gifts.
Where It’s All About Jesus
Hackney Apostolic exists to reach and influence the community of Hackney by teaching through the Word of God, equipping believers for a Spirit filled life and and empowering people to lead and impact in every sphere of life.
The Word of God
Repentance and Conversion
The One True God
The Name of Jesus
As a young girl growing up in Jamaica, I would read my bible and pray even though I was not a Christian. I was invited by my friend to the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Cascade, Jamaica on Sunday 13th October 1957. On arrival at the church, I could not help but admired the way in which the young brethren were worshipping the Lord. Someone approached me with a challenge and stated “If you think you’re bad step inside.” I took the challenge and went inside the church and took a seat. As I sat listening to the preacher, the preacher looked at me and said, “Would you put fire in your bosom?” I said “no”. After which the preacher said again “would you burn somebody” I replied, “why not”. He said to me “you better come to God now.” I asked him “who are you talking to” he answered “you.” I hissed my teeth and flashed my hand. The preacher said unto me the second time, “you better come to God.” I was again challenged by someone who said to me, “if you think you are bad, go to the altar.”
I got up in defiance and went to the altar and knelt down so the person could see that I was in for the challenge. As I knelt at the altar, God took possession of my soul from that moment. I was filled with the power of the Holy Ghost and began speaking in tongues as the spirit gave me utterance. I was baptised on Sunday October 27th 1957 in the name of Jesus Christ at the said church under the leadership of Bishop R.C. Walker.
I came to London in November of 1960 to join my late husband Bro Samuel Douglas where we worshipped together at an Apostolic Church under the leadership of Bishop A.J. Gordon in Battersea.
While worshipping still at Bishop Gordon, the Lord showed Bro Samuel to come and work in the East of London. God opened doors for us that through our courage and bravery, The Hackney Pentecostal Apostolic Church was birthed. I was ordained a Pastor in 1990 by the late Bishop Murray who was the senior Bishop above Bishop Walker.
God has been so good to me and I am confident that He walks with me. My intention is to remain faithful and true to Him as He is the one who paid the price for me. This short testimony is to prove to you that God is a Saviour and what He has done for me, He will do the same for you. Do give God a chance in your life as He is more than able to see you through, regardless of your situation.
In closing I would like to leave you with this scripture taken from 2nd Chronicles 15:7 “Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.” You are always welcome at the Hackney Pentecostal Apostolic Church at any time during our services and we look forward to seeing you. God bless you.
Purpose Hope Transformation
Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people perish” This talks about vision which to us is having a Purpose
Romans 8:18 declares “For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God"
1 Corinthians 2:4 “And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power"
The stated verses above encapsulates our vision in these three Words: Purpose, Hope, Transformation.
Our vision is to further the gospel in the communities around us and beyond. We are expecting more souls to be birthed for the Kingdom of God. The Bible declares “for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people” With this in mind, we intend to tap into nations and cultures whom we have reached and have never reached before with the gospel.
It is our aim and desire that everyone can gather in oneness and worship the Lord with a pure language. The harvest is plenty but the labourers are few.
We are intending for people to come to Jesus and to have a relationship with Him as their personal Saviour. We want them to experience the peace, the healing and love of God in their hearts.

“Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth” Ecclesiastes 12:1.
“Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth, and I will establish unto thee an everlasting covenant.” Ezekiel 16:60.
Best practices have showed us that Youth is certainly the best time to starting serving the Lord. There are many inspiring stories of Youth in the Bible who have been revolutionaries have made indelible mark that have impacted our salvation.
It is evident that the devil is working hard on the youths of today and captivating their minds and to turn them away form the Lord. One of our mission and purpose is to give our youth the tools needed for this spiritual battle with the devil. We intend for them to never retreat or sound defeat in the battle with the devil.
As a youth, you can stand, you can make the difference. You can purpose in your heart that you will live for God and die for God. You can be one of them and fulfil Paul’s encouragement to Timothy which he stated “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity”.
You will have the opportunity to share in the ministry. There are a range of activities and we are sure you will find something to your liking.
“For with God nothing shall be impossible” (LUKE 1:37)
Sister Pam – Prior to becoming a Christian, Sister Pam had to walk with walking sticks. She could not kneel or stand and had to use an oxygen mask on a daily basis to assist her with breathing. Additionally, she was claustrophobic and was unable to travel on aeroplane. Prayer was made by the church for her and praise be to God, Sister Pam is now walking without the aid of walking sticks, she has stopped using the oxygen mask and has since travelled on aeroplane over 20 times without any difficulties. There is so much power in prayer.
Sister Rebecca – During one Sunday evening service, Sister Rebecca was experiencing some excruciating pain that was radiating from her right side to her leg. During a particular moment in the service, the Power of God descended mightily in the service and Sister Rebecca was healed from that night. God has spoken once, twice have I heard it that Power belongs to God.
Minister Pike – In the summer of 2004, Min Pike (then Bro Kevin) was preparing some witnessing materials for our annual Holy Convocation. He went into the church office to get some leaflets and sat on a chair. He suddenly felt a pain across his chest and whilst holding his chest, he collapsed on the floor and died. Sis Donna, a qualified nurse in our church checked his pulse and said “he is dead.” Pastor Douglas was notified and she rushed to see what was going on and she started crying out with a loud voice repeatedly, “LIFE IN THE NAME OF JESUS”. Minister Pike began regaining his consciousness until he was fully recovered. He told us whilst coming back to consciousness he heard a voice that seemed so far away saying “LIFE, LIFE IN THE NAME OF JESUS” which was the voice of our Pastor, Pastor Douglas. In John 11 verse 25, it states: Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.
Melissa – This lady was heavily pregnant and was told by the doctors that her baby was in a breeched position. Feeling a bit sad and down by the news, she was prayed for by Sister Shauna and was also invited to church by Sister Shauna. Melissa came to church and asked for prayer and praise God her prayer was answered. The baby was turned to the delivery position and she gave birth to a very healthy baby. God is mighty and will do anything
Angela – This lady in reference was trying for about eight months to conceive a child but was unsuccessful. She attended one of our Sunday services and heeded the call for prayer and came to the altar. Evangelist Johnson began to minister to her and started tp prayer for her, during the prayer, Angela took Evangelist Johnsons’s hand and placed it on her stomach. Since receiving prayer, Angela tried again and became impregnated and gave birth to a healthy baby boy. There goes another miracle by the Lord
Sister Chevla – Before Sister Chevla became a Christian, she was prescribed some medication for her condition as it was believed that she was losing her mind. She spoke to Pastor Douglas who advised her to believe God and stop taking the medication. Sis Chevla obeyed the instruction and has since been completely delivered. Jesus is the miracle worker.
Sister Audrey – She suffered from dizzy spells for seven years and made numerous visits to the doctors and the hospital, but they were unable to help her. She came to one of our prayer and fasting services and made a request for prayer. The brethren prayed for her and she has reported that since prayers were offered up for her, she has never had another dizzy spell. God moves in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform
Elder Henry – Was informed by his relatives that his brother in Jamaica had ‘lost his mind’ and was exhibiting psychotic symptoms. He was taken to the hospital but the doctors were unable to diagnose the illness. Elder Henry was very concerned for his brother and being so far away, the only thing he could do was pray. He attended church and spoke to Pastor Douglas about it and they both prayed together. The prayer was answered and his brother has regained his mental faculties, stopped smoking and went back to do some studies to pursue an engineering course.
Evangelist Pike – Had a ruptured blood vessel in her eye which affected her vision and was advised by the doctors to register herself as having a disability. Pastor Douglas, not knowing what had happened to Evangelist Pike was led to pray for Evangelist Pike and was asking the Lord to not make Evangelist Pike worry. Since then, her eyes are completely healed. We serve a great, big, wonderful God.
Sister Idaline – Was suffering from depression for many years and it appeared to her, as if there was no end to her problem. She was prescribed antidepressants, on which she heavily depended. She was invited to our church and she attended and received prayer for her condition. After the prayer, she reported that she has recovered from her depression and has since bid farewell to the medication. This is the Lord’s doing.
Elder Johnson – Had an ulcerated stomach ulcer for over 50yrs and was restricted to certain foods. After giving his life to the Lord, he has since been healed and is now able to eat the foods that he had always wanted to eat but could. Jesus is still the answer.
Sister Donna – Is a qualified nurse and was teaching someone how to test themselves for a lump only to have discovered she had one on her breast. She was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2001 and was told by the doctors that she had no white blood cells and that it was detrimental to her life. She started to play a cd and the voice on the cd sounded like the voice of Pastor Douglas’. She rang Pastor Douglas and told her what the doctors said and whilst still talking to Pastor Douglas on the phone, the phlebotomist came to take her blood. Immediately, Pastor Douglas began to pray and said: “Lord touch her blood and make it normal again”. They were still extracting blood from her arm while the prayer was going on. Pastor Douglas continued to pray and stated “Lord, make her well, let her go home, sleep in her bed and enjoy her home”. When the results came back; to Sis Donna’s amazement, her blood had been made whole as the white cells had reappeared and she was discharged immediately from the hospital. Sis Donna is still alive and is completely healed from cancer. If that isn’t love the ocean is dry.
